Shānlín Xī Guìfēi Oolong

Much like its more famous cousin, Dong Fang Mei Ren, Gui Fei Oolong is made from leaves bitten by the green leafhopper.  In addition to being bug bitten, our high mountain Gui Fei has undergone multiple rounds of roasting in the style and tradition of Dong Ding oolong. 
 

Dry leaves are light brown, with a distinct honey and brown sugar aroma. If you allow the leaves to steam in a heated teapot or gaiwan, you will notice the leaves emit a lovely osmanthus and logan flower aroma.

Drinking the first round of brewing, you’ll taste a delightful mix of honey and longan fruit.  There is also a subtle aromatic hint of osmanthus flowers in full bloom. The second round is sweet and floral, with added notes of baker’s spice and sandalwood.  The honey sweetness grows in intensity during the finish. The third round sees a slight shift away from the honey note, towards a more longan-forward flavor.
